Two employees of the Russian embassy were killed in an explosion in Kabul, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
“In the immediate vicinity of the entrance to the consular section of the Russian embassy in Kabul, an unknown militant set off an explosive device. As a result of the attack, two employees of the diplomatic mission were killed, and there are also victims among Afghan citizens, — reported in the department. Source “RIA Novosti” previously stated that a diplomat and one of the guards of the diplomatic mission were killed.
Source of “Izvestia” the Foreign Ministry said that the second secretary of the embassy, Mikhail Shah, had died. The injured guard died in the hospital.
The Foreign Ministry is in contact with the Afghan security services, they are investigating.
The explosion occurred 5 September. The interlocutor of “RIA Novosti” reported that a total of 15–20 people were killed and injured. Al Jazeera on Twitter, citing an Afghan security source, said eight people were killed and 15 injured. Al Arabia reports ten dead.

Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov called the incident a terrorist attack. “Certainly, we are talking about a terrorist attack. We strongly condemn such terrorist acts. And, of course, now the main thing that needs to be done, — it is to get information from the ground about what happened to our representatives, our diplomats,” — he told reporters.
